Job Overview:

The Lead Automation Engineer plays a pivotal role in providing technical expertise and accountability for the execution of essential projects that contribute to the operational success of our organization.

This position involves engaging in the design, installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automation systems to align with the strategic goals of the company.

The Lead Automation Engineer will collaborate closely with operators, calibration technicians, and engineers to ensure the integrity of complex systems.

Key Responsibilities:
Act as the Subject Matter Expert for validation processes, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., 21 CFR Part 11 and cGMP) during the development phase.
Work in conjunction with IT to facilitate GMP-compliant integration with corporate IT frameworks.
Assist in the preparation and participation in system specifications and design documentation.
Provide daily support for Building Management Systems and Process Control Systems.
Engage in coding, programming, and configuration for both continuous and batch control systems.
Oversee DeltaV Batch recipe configuration, including phases, EMs, and CMs.
Develop protocols for transferring technologies, recipes, and parameters from development to commercial production.
Manage DeltaV Virtualization and OSI Soft PI Historian configuration and upkeep.
Maintain Functional Specifications, Database Design Specifications, and Hardware Design Specifications for automation systems.
Establish and uphold Automation Standard Operating Procedures and training programs for Automation Systems.
Conduct Engineering Test Plans for Automation.
Support, configure, and maintain automation reporting systems such as Infobatch.
Execute Software Test Specifications and maintain backups of automation code.

Provide engineering and technical evaluations for new equipment acquisitions, including Request for Quote Bid Packages, design reviews, FAT, and SAT.

Perform all duties in a compliant and ethical manner, adhering to applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.

Ensure compliance with cGMP practices utilized in the manufacturing environment.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proficient in Manufacturing Enterprise Systems, including Weight and Dispense and EBR.
Experience with Process Control Systems, SCADA design, implementation, and operational management.
Ability to develop new code for continuous and batch control systems.
Familiarity with BMS, SCADA, and DCS design, commissioning, and validation in a GMP setting.
Knowledge of GAMP and other methodologies related to System Development Life Cycles (SDLC) and CAPA.
Understanding of 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.

Familiarity with automation protocols such as:
HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Traditional I/O, Profibus, Ethernet I/P, OPC, and Modbus TCP/IP.
Experience with DCS, SCADA, and BMS systems, including DeltaV, Factory Talk View, and APOGEE.
A reliable, self-motivated individual with a positive attitude; team-oriented with the ability to collaborate with diverse staff.
Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail. Capable of developing and refining preventative maintenance procedures for technical equipment.
Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, evolving work environment.
Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Desire to contribute to a cutting-edge, research-oriented, and customized manufacturing facility.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Ability to engage in prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, and stretching.

Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate office equipment such as keyboards, photocopiers, telephones, and calculators are required.

Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Exposure to noisy environments is expected.
Support company manufacturing activities around the clock.
Attendance is essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, along with five (5) years of relevant automation engineering experience, preferably in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sector.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with critical utility and non-GMP utility systems is advantageous.
