Automation Technician

Position Overview

Department: Operational Technology

Reporting To: Automation Manager

Travel Requirements: Yes

Role Summary

The Automation Technician is primarily responsible for the field-based installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of various electrical and mechanical automation systems. This role involves collaboration with the operations team to provide guidance and training on the effective use of these systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation and Repair
    • Terminate wiring for diverse devices within automation controllers.
    • Install level, pressure, flow, and communication devices.
    • Conduct field assembly and repair of various automation equipment.
  • Quality Assurance and Troubleshooting
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of manufacturer guidelines for the installation and maintenance of sensitive equipment.
    • Evaluate the work of field personnel and vendors to ensure quality and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Training and Support
    • Deliver on-site training to supervisors and field personnel regarding new processes and technologies.
    • Provide troubleshooting support both on-site and via phone for new processes and technologies.
    • Offer performance feedback and assess the knowledge levels of field personnel to the automation manager.
    • Advise management on necessary knowledge and identified gaps.
  • Documentation
    • Compile data and generate comprehensive reports.
    • Provide management with insights on process improvements.
  • Additional Duties
    • Operate vehicles to transport equipment and personnel.
    • Complete required training for DOT, OSHA, and safety protocols.
    • Perform basic data entry tasks.
    • Participate in meetings and training sessions.
    • Travel daily to various locations as needed.
    • Collect data and/or samples in the field.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Exhibit technical writing skills.
  • Read and write proficiently in English.

  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Effectively explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Preferably have extensive experience with SCADA equipment.
  • General oilfield experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in various weather conditions, including rain, extreme heat, and cold, near moving mechanical parts; exposure to high winds, ice, snow, and dust is expected.
  • Noise levels may require hearing protection.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs independently.
