Crisis Intervention Specialist for Youth

GENERAL SUMMARY:
As a vital member of a mobile, community-oriented crisis intervention team, you will deliver essential mental health services to youth and families facing crises. This role emphasizes support for young individuals who have encountered traumatic experiences. You will engage with clients in various environments, including homes, schools, and community shelters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial evaluations for children and families in distress due to emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges; initiate necessary service requests and facilitate communication with relevant agencies.
- Provide immediate crisis intervention and mental health support to families until ongoing services are arranged, acting as a resource for follow-up mental health care.
- Collaborate with a community mental health team to develop and implement stabilization strategies, short-term crisis interventions, and treatment plans tailored for children and adolescents.
- Work alongside community organizations, law enforcement, educational institutions, and youth services to secure emergency resources for families in mental health crises.
- Respond to urgent calls and deliver crisis interventions to mitigate mental health emergencies, while offering information about coordinated resources and follow-up services.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and legal documentation as required.
- Prepare necessary reports for law enforcement or other legal entities upon request.
- Engage in outreach and educational initiatives to inform community members and partner organizations about trauma-informed practices and the overall impact of trauma.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related discipline is required.
- Must possess and uphold licensure as a LCSW, LPC, or LMFT in good standing.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
- Experience conducting home visits and providing crisis support in community settings is essential.
- Extensive training and experience in mental health, particularly with children and adolescents.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with Wraparound philosophy and issues affecting adolescents and families.
- Understanding of the Wisconsin Children's Code and juvenile justice systems.
- Knowledge of human development theories.
- Demonstrated cultural competence in interacting with diverse populations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
- A valid driver's license and liability insurance are required.
- Ability to travel locally as needed for job responsibilities.
- Proficiency in timely and accurate documentation of assessments and notes.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Combination of indoor and outdoor work environments.
- Local travel may be required to fulfill job functions.
- This position requires flexibility to work some evenings based on family visit schedules.
