**Job Summary**

Centers for Independence is seeking a skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team at the Crisis Resource Center. As a key member of our community-based team, you will provide direct care to mentally ill adults, helping to create a homelike environment that fosters recovery and growth.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Provide case management services, documenting client files and consulting with clinical staff as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to develop and implement treatment plans, advocating for clients with external agencies as required.
  • Monitor client activities and facility environment, ensuring a safe and therapeutic space for all.
  • Intervene as necessary to prevent harm and de-escalate client situations, monitoring physical and emotional stability.
  • Supervise and guide other BHT staff, ensuring proper execution of work tasks.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with local community agencies, coordinating services and resources for clients.
  • Process admission and discharge paperwork, coordinating with medical support, outpatient services, and other agencies as needed.
  • Update and maintain client files, records, and charts, gathering and compiling data for management purposes.
  • Assist clients in learning independent living skills, encouraging symptom management through support and education.
  • Participate in meal planning, preparation, and serving, ensuring nutritious community meals are provided.
  • Monitor client medication regimes and compliance, reporting changes in behavior and functioning to staff.
  • Ensure residents maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene and are prepared for appointments.
  • Ensure the house is clean and conforms to CBRF regulations, reporting physical repairs to the Director.
  • Participate in emergency evacuation procedures and fire alarm system checks.
  • Familiarize yourself with resident individualized service plans and document daily behavior and routine.
  • Ensure paperwork and transportation to medical appointments are completed, ordering supplies and groceries as needed.
  • Train and orient pool staff, supervising and documenting morning client groups as required.
  • Plan and maintain menus for house meals, attending and participating in staff meetings, in-service training, and conferences as needed.

**Requirements**

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related Human Services field.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Travel not required for this position.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Professional workplace appearance and conduct, with friendliness and courtesy to clients, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Effective communication, listening, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to train coworkers and possess supervision experience.
  • Knowledge of community resources available to consumers in the Milwaukee County area.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing.

**Work Environment and Physical Requirements**

  • Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, by computer, and in person.
  • Ability to use a personal computer.
  • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced work environment.
  • On occasion, must be able to push/pull/lift/move objects weighing at least 50 pounds.
  • This position may work in a variety of indoor and outdoor work environments, including the Crisis Resource Center, office environments, and outdoor settings.
