Job Summary

The University of California, Office of the President, seeks a highly skilled Executive Director of Compensation Strategy to lead the development and implementation of systemwide compensation programs. This key role will oversee the design, communication, and execution of compensation strategies, policies, and programs for approximately 200 Senior Management Group members and 140,000 staff employees across the UC system.

The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of all compensation programs and initiatives, including base pay, incentive/bonus, equity programs, and executive compensation. They will have the ability to comprehend political implications of compensation decisions and an understanding of current business trends.

This leadership role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on implementing enhancements and improvements to the execution of the compensation philosophy and strategic framework through continuous evaluation and improvement of systems, processes, and operations to strengthen the University's position in higher education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement systemwide compensation strategies, policies, and programs.
  • Oversee the design, communication, and execution of compensation programs.
  • Provide guidance and advice to Senior Leadership on compensation matters.
  • Collaborate with the AVP for Total Rewards and other stakeholders to develop and implement compensation initiatives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of succession plans and cross-training for staff across multiple areas of expertise.
Requirements
  • Over 10 years of experience in Compensation roles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all compensation programs and initiatives.
  • Ability to comprehend political implications of compensation decisions.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrable interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
