Job Summary

The University of California, Office of the President, is seeking a highly skilled Government Relations Director to lead the legislative advocacy strategy for the UC Student Association. This is a critical role that requires strong relationships with state and federal policymakers, as well as the ability to develop and execute effective lobbying campaigns.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in government relations and legislation, with a strong understanding of the UC system and its stakeholders. They will be able to build and maintain coalitions and partnerships with other student organizations and allies to coordinate legislative strategy and efforts.

The Government Relations Director will be responsible for developing the organization's legislative agenda, providing analysis and recommendations for action, and tracking legislative activity. They will also be responsible for advocating UCSA's policy positions to State and Federal policymakers through lobbying, testimony gathering, written support, etc.

This is a full-time position based in Sacramento, with regular travel to UCSA Board Meetings and conferences. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the UCSA legislative advocacy strategy
  • Build and maintain relationships with state and federal policymakers
  • Develop and maintain coalitions and partnerships with other student organizations and allies
  • Advocate UCSA's policy positions to State and Federal policymakers
  • Track legislative activity and provide analysis and recommendations for action
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in government relations and legislation
  • Strong understanding of the UC system and its stakeholders
  • Ability to build and maintain coalitions and partnerships with other student organizations and allies
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Apps
