About the Role

The NYC Department of Veterans' Services is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veteran Housing Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Housing & Support Services unit, you will play a critical role in connecting homeless veterans with safe and affordable housing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of homeless veterans, providing individualized support and guidance throughout the housing process.
  • Collaborate with interagency partners and providers to ensure seamless transitions into permanent housing.
  • Provide crossteam support for Aftercare Services and Veteran Resource Centers, including logistical assistance for client move-ins.
  • Assist the HSS unit in complying with office systems, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Represent the unit or agency at relevant interagency and external stakeholder meetings to facilitate partnerships and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven commitment to values-based culture and a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work comfortably with diverse populations with sensitivity to veterans' issues.
  • Case management and/or project management experience.
  • Excellent record-keeping skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license strongly preferred.
  • Prior service in the United States Armed Forces and/or experience working with the veteran community a bonus.

As a City of New York employee, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment, but certain City Employees may be eligible to reside in surrounding counties.
