The Maps Experimentation Engineering team is on the lookout for a skilled software engineer with substantial backend application development experience to contribute to our A/B testing framework.
Our team collaborates closely with engineers, statisticians, data scientists, product managers, and mapping specialists to refine our core product, which impacts millions of users globally every day.
Role Responsibilities:The Apple Maps Evaluation team is seeking talented engineers.
Our team develops extensive data and computing platforms, alongside core services, to empower engineers, statisticians, and scientists in creating and testing algorithms that enhance the accuracy and quality of Apple Maps' global dataset.
We oversee the A/B experimentation platform for Apple Maps, tackling intricate challenges at a vast scale.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in designing, building, and managing large-scale backend applications and will be well-versed in A/B experimentation.
You will play a vital role in our A/B testing systems, collaborating with engineers, statisticians, data scientists, product managers, and mapping specialists to enhance a core product that serves millions of users worldwide daily.
As part of a cross-functional team, you will address novel challenges related to experimentation and distributed systems while prioritizing user privacy.
- Demonstrate proficiency in object-oriented software development, engineering best practices, and design patterns.
- Manage critical production services with high availability and performance, utilizing appropriate monitoring and alerting to identify potential issues, and applying automation for deployment and validation to ensure safe changes in production.
- Exhibit strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills for critical systems. Proficient debugging skills and a solid understanding of distributed systems, backend services, and relational databases are essential.
- Foster collaboration among engineering, product, and data science teams across Maps and Apple to enhance experimentation systems that span client applications, backend services, core infrastructure, and data analytics pipelines.
- Convert data science requirements related to statistics and analysis into functional experimentation software that enhances Apple's capacity for data-driven decision-making.
Experience with Java development and managing JVMs.
Familiarity with major web service frameworks (e.g., Dropwizard, Spring, Akka, Spray, Play).
Experience with relational databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle).
Excellent communication skills and a strong desire to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:Understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, and a commitment to software development best practices.
Knowledge of performance optimization, large-scale deployment, continuous integration, and unit testing.
Familiarity with A/B testing methodologies.
Compensation & Benefits:At Apple, base pay is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package and is determined within a specified range.
This structure allows for growth as you advance in your role.The base pay range for this position is between $115,731 and $204,000 annually, with your base pay contingent on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if they voluntarily participate in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
