Clinical Faculty Position in Cardiology

Job Summary

The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a qualified faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor to join our Cardiology department. The selected candidate will engage in both inpatient and outpatient care, including participation in night and weekend call duties. There are opportunities to be involved in echocardiography and various non-invasive imaging practices, as desired. The role includes collaboration with house staff, fellows, and physician extenders, along with opportunities for education and clinical research based on individual expertise and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a thriving outpatient clinical practice with three (3) half-day clinics weekly at the primary practice site and additional satellite locations. Provide support for the Fellow's clinic as needed.
  • Engage in Inpatient CCU, Ward, and Consult Services, including ECG interpretation.
  • Contribute to the Echo Lab, CT, Nuclear, and cardiac MRI reading schedules according to your interests and training. Participate in shared weeknight and weekend call and echo reading pools with fellow imaging faculty.
  • Assist in structural echocardiographic imaging training for TAVR, MitraClip, and Watchman procedures as required.
  • Participate in night and weekend call coverage across all hospitals and inpatient cardiology services as necessary, in alignment with colleagues.
  • Achieve work RVUs at or above the 65th percentile for non-invasive cardiologists as reported by the UHC Faculty Practice Solution Center, adjusted for your assigned clinical FTE.
  • Support the teaching initiatives of the Division for Phase I, II, and III medical students; residents primarily from the Department of Medicine and other departments; and the training of Cardiology fellows during Consult Services.
  • Actively engage in faculty meetings and outreach activities, which may involve brief trips to connect with referring physicians, groups, or hospitals.
  • Participate in scholarly endeavors, including clinical/translational research in your area of interest, publication of case reports, review articles, etc. Foster a productive scholarly environment among trainees and junior faculty.

Qualifications

MD, Board certified or Board eligible, with completion of a cardiology fellowship.

Assistant Professor: Early career faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training.

Associate Professor: Mid-career faculty member with a minimum of five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent training and experience.

Professor: Senior faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent training and experience.

All faculty employment qualifications must align with the requirements of the University System of Georgia and all academic ranks within these institutions, including:
  • Compliance with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation standards;
  • Demonstrated teaching ability;
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and competency in assigned duties;
  • Successful experience (waived for those new to the academic profession who meet all other criteria); and,
  • Desirable personal attributes assessed through interviews, biographical data, and recommendations.


Compensation and Benefits

This position operates on a fiscal year basis and is year-round.

The full-time equivalent (FTE) for this role is 1.0, classified as full-time.

Compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and accomplishments, subject to funding availability.

Full-time employees with over six months of service may be eligible for the Tuition Assistance Program.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire based on various factors, including experience, education, credentials, specialty, and training, while considering internal equity and market data.

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the largest medical schools in the nation by class size, with 260 students per class.
