Position Overview

The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is in search of a qualified faculty member for the role of Cardiologist at the academic ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The chosen candidate will engage in both inpatient and outpatient care, including night and weekend on-call responsibilities. There are opportunities to participate in echocardiography and various aspects of non-invasive imaging as desired. Collaboration with house staff, fellows, and physician extenders is encouraged, along with opportunities for education and clinical research based on the candidate's experience and expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a thriving outpatient clinical practice with three (3) half-day clinics weekly at the primary practice site and additional locations as needed. Provide support in the Fellow's clinic as required.
  • Engage in Inpatient CCU, Ward, and Consult Services, including ECG interpretation.
  • Contribute to the Echo Lab, CT, Nuclear, and cardiac MRI reading schedules based on personal interests and training. Night and weekend call and echo reading responsibilities will be shared among cardiology imaging faculty.
  • Participate in structural echocardiographic imaging training to assist with TAVR, MitraClip, and Watchman procedures as necessary.
  • Share night and weekend on-call duties across all hospitals and inpatient cardiology services as needed, in alignment with colleagues.
  • Achieve work RVUs at or above the 65th percentile for non-invasive cardiologists as reported by the UHC Faculty Practice Solution Center, adjusted for assigned clinical FTE.
  • Engage in teaching activities for Phase I, II, and III medical students; residents primarily from the Department of Medicine and other departments; and Cardiology fellows during their Consult Services.
  • Actively participate in faculty meetings and outreach initiatives, which may involve brief visits to meet with referring physicians and hospitals.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including clinical/translational research in a chosen area, publication of case reports, review articles, etc. Support a productive scholarly environment among trainees and junior faculty.
  • This list is not exhaustive and may change at the discretion of the Division Chief.


Qualifications

MD, Board certified or eligible, completion of cardiology fellowship.

Assistant Professor - Early career faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training.

Associate Professor - Mid-career faculty member with a minimum of five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent training and experience.

Professor - Senior career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent training and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions include:
  • Compliance with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation requirements;
  • Demonstrated teaching ability;
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and capability in all assigned duties;
  • Successful experience (waived for those entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities assessed through interviews, biographical data, and recommendations.


Compensation and Benefits

This position is year-round and full-time (1.0 FTE).

Compensation for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor ranks is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements, subject to fund availability.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire based on various factors, including experience, education, credentials, specialty, and training, while considering internal equity and market data.
