Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer I to join our team at Eastern Virginia Medical School. As a Police Officer I, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, patients, visitors, staff, and property by patrolling assigned areas, maintaining traffic control, and investigating irregularities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol interior and exterior areas, including outlying properties, to detect and prevent crime
  • Investigate criminal violations and accidents, both traffic and pedestrian, within the jurisdiction of EVMS
  • Provide information and assistance to students, staff, patients, and visitors
  • Enforce parking regulations and ensure individuals are not smoking on campus
  • Respond to emergency calls in a prompt and professional manner, following appropriate policy
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice, or related field preferred
  • One year experience as a law enforcement officer or one year experience as a Public Safety Officer with EVMS Department of Police and Public Safety
  • Certified by the Virginia DCJS as a Basic Law Enforcement Officer or obtain DCJS certification within one year of employment
Working Conditions
  • Ability to work various shifts, 24/7 365, when required with appropriate notice
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, exposed to inclement weather conditions
  • Ability to respond to emergency incidents and be exposed to fire/smoke, blood and bodily fluids, and hazardous materials
