Mechanical Engineer I

The Design Engineer 1 performs engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.
Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
For training and developmental purposes, assignments may include some work that is typical of a higher level.
The Design Engineer 1 reports to the Engineering Product Manager.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing a variety of routine tasks that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the engineering staff, methods, practices, and programs.
- Assisting in the development of new products and making improvements to existing products.
- Reviewing existing designs and Bills-Of-Material (BOM) and manipulating them to meet the needs of Modified-To-Order (MTO) and Engineered-To-Order (ETO) products.
- Preparing part drawings for design packages and pattern files for CAM use.
- Preparing BOM for equipment consistent with product structure, prepares ERP system commitments in accordance with design needs.
- Investigating design related problems revealed in fabrication, assembly, test, quality assurance and service for a specific product sector.
- Responsible for ERP system commitments for product sector equipment.
- Responsible for meeting cost reduction targets for a specific product sector.
- Interfaces with Sales, Purchasing, Customer Support and various Manufacturing departments and customers.
Essential skills and experience include:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience with 3-D modeling software.
- Must be detail oriented and able to multitask and prioritize demands.
- Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
