Job Summary:

The Administrative Police Officer will perform a variety of administrative duties to support the department, including but not limited to: collecting and delivering financial instruments, assisting with training and investigations, and conducting safety assessments.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily lock bag duty by collecting secured financial records, deposits, and accounts from various departments and delivering them to the appropriate offices.
  • Assist the Training Lieutenant with maintaining training records, preparing training classes, and conducting training for personnel.
  • Assist the Police Investigator with preliminary and follow-up investigations as needed.
  • Assist the Emergency Manager with safety checks, exercises, and drills as needed.
  • Conduct campus safety assessments and maintain knowledge of the campus layout.
  • May be called upon to perform patrol duties to assist in providing requested services.
  • Is knowledgeable of HIPPA regulations and the responsibility of Campus Police and Public Safety when dealing with outside agencies.
  • Is properly prepared to provide testimony in court, as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 year experience as a law enforcement officer or 6 months experience as a Police Officer 1 with EVMS Department of Police and Public Safety.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Good communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).
  • Thorough working knowledge of the campus, to include its topography, buildings, streets, persons and organizations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Virginia criminal code and traffic regulations, and enforce same.
  • Maintain required qualifications in first aid and CPR.
  • Meet or exceed DCJS standards and EVMS Police and Public Safety guidelines in firearms, communications, handcuffs, baton, pepper foam, and other defensive tactics.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Certified by the Virginia DCJS as a Basic Law Enforcement Officer.
  • IAHSS basic certification preferred.
