Lead Transportation Engineering Specialist

Leadership Responsibilities
- Participate in regular leadership and operational discussions, providing updates on the Traffic & Transportation Engineering Team's progress and initiatives.
- Formulate and structure project teams effectively.
- Oversee and assess the utilization and productivity of the Traffic & Transportation Engineering Team members.
- Accountable for the management of revenue and business growth within the Traffic & Transportation Engineering Team, including setting revenue forecasts.
- Evaluate project performance metrics for Project Managers within the Traffic & Transportation Engineering Team.
- Devise and implement business development strategies in collaboration with other Team Leaders to meet organizational objectives.
- Conduct performance evaluations and develop personal success plans for team members.
- Provide recommendations for staffing and engage in the recruitment process.
- Draft and review proposals and contracts for both single and multi-disciplinary projects.
- Establish and nurture relationships with clients, including various state departments and local municipalities involved in transportation initiatives.
- Act as the primary client liaison, defining project scopes, preparing engineering agreements, and representing the company at public forums and project meetings.
- Enhance the firm's professional practice and reputation within the industry and among clients.
- Guide and mentor technical staff on engineering practices and methodologies.
- Represent the company at interviews, conferences, and other professional gatherings.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create content for the website and social media channels related to Traffic & Transportation Engineering services.
Project Management Duties
- Serve as the project manager for traffic and transportation initiatives, maintaining open lines of communication with clients.
- Function as the Engineer of Record, ensuring responsible oversight of projects.
- Coordinate efforts with other engineering disciplines.
- Identify and manage project priorities effectively.
- Direct assignments and tasks for engineers, technicians, and administrative personnel.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and practices relevant to the engineering field.
- Conduct peer reviews of engineering work.
- Attend public and client meetings as necessary.
- Oversee compliance with permitting and regulatory requirements from various agencies.
- Supervise the preparation and review of plans and specifications for transportation engineering projects.
- Manage construction administration tasks, including contractor coordination and site observations.
Qualifications
- 15 to 25 years of experience in the design of transportation projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation Engineering is preferred.
- Current Professional Engineer licensure with the ability to obtain state licensure within a specified timeframe.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with staff, clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Experience in proposal writing, revenue oversight, and business development is advantageous.
- Technical Skills
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Design of transportation facilities, including urban and rural roadways, bridges, and trails.
- Geometric design of rural roadways and intersection design.
- Traffic engineering, including trip generation, capacity analysis, and traffic signal design.
- Familiarity with relevant design guides and standards from various transportation departments.
- Experience with construction administration in accordance with federal guidelines is preferred.
- Knowledge of permitting and regulatory requirements related to transportation projects.
- Experience in traffic engineering activities, such as traffic signal design and impact studies.
