Job Overview

Position: Staff Geotechnical Engineer I


Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be tasked with a variety of essential duties, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting geotechnical assessments for new or expanding waste management facilities, focusing on aspects such as settlement analysis, slope stability, seepage evaluation, and the assessment of liner systems.
  • Overseeing subsurface investigations through soil sampling techniques, including boring methods, Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), and geophysical surveys to gather site condition data for geotechnical analysis.
  • Identifying and quantifying suitable low permeability soils and structural fill materials, as well as conducting geotechnical drilling to assess rock and groundwater presence.
  • Ensuring Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) throughout the project lifecycle, from pre-construction activities to monitoring, sampling, testing, and reporting to regulatory bodies during landfill construction initiatives.
  • Implementing technical specifications to fulfill client project requirements by guiding field personnel in data collection and on-site documentation at various locations.
  • Reviewing routine laboratory and field data for incorporation into comprehensive reports.
  • Performing engineering calculations utilizing established formulas and methodologies.
  • Drafting reports and correspondence related to the progress and direction of assigned projects.
  • Engaging in a diverse range of fieldwork and office responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • 0-4 years of relevant experience in geotechnical consulting, project management, GeoStructure design, or landfill CQA roles.
  • Possession of EIT certification or the ability to obtain it within one year.
  • Willingness to work in the field up to 50% of the time, with travel requirements across various states.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with experience in diverse geotechnical evaluations and calculations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil3D software.
  • Preferred experience with Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) containment projects.
  • Ability to provide clear verbal and written recommendations, along with producing technical reports, calculations, figures, charts, and specifications.
  • Field experience and familiarity with construction environments.
  • Self-motivated with effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Capability to complete tasks independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
  • Demonstrated interest in ongoing involvement with professional and industry organizations.
