Position: Staff Geotechnical Engineer I
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting geotechnical assessments for new or expanding waste management facilities, focusing on settlement analysis, slope stability, seepage, liner system evaluation, leachate collection, and closure cap materials.
- Overseeing subsurface investigations through soil test borings, CPT, Geoprobe, and geophysical methods to gather site condition data for geotechnical analysis.
- Identifying and quantifying low permeability soils and suitable materials for structural fill, along with geotechnical drilling to assess rock and groundwater conditions.
- Ensuring Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) throughout all phases of landfill construction projects, from pre-construction to monitoring, sampling, testing, and reporting to regulatory bodies.
- Implementing technical specifications to fulfill client project requirements by guiding field personnel in sampling, testing, and data collection activities.
- Reviewing routine laboratory and field data for inclusion in comprehensive reports.
- Performing engineering calculations utilizing established formulas and methodologies.
- Preparing detailed reports and correspondence regarding project direction and progress.
- Engaging in a variety of fieldwork and office tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- 0-4 years of relevant experience in geotechnical consulting, project management, GeoStructure design, or landfill CQA roles.
- EIT certification or the ability to obtain it within one year.
- Willingness to work in the field up to 50% of the time, with travel throughout various southeastern states.
- Strong analytical capabilities and experience with diverse geotechnical evaluations and calculations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil3D software.
- Preferred experience with Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) containment.
- Ability to provide clear verbal and written recommendations, along with producing technical reports, calculations, figures, charts, and specifications.
- Field experience and familiarity with construction environments.
- Self-motivated with effective time management and prioritization skills.
- Capability to work independently on projects while also collaborating within a team setting.
- Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development and involvement in industry associations.
