Position Overview:
The County of Riverside Department of Waste Resources is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to become a vital part of the Engineering and Operations Division.

Role Summary:
This role represents the supervisory level within the registered civil engineer series, reporting to a managerial position. The Senior Civil Engineer is distinguished by their registration as a Civil Engineer by the State of California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.

Key Responsibilities:
Incumbents will hold full accountability for a specific unit or team involved in permitting, engineering, construction, and landfill operations. The position demands a high level of technical engineering expertise, along with the capability to plan, select, direct, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned personnel.

Department Structure:
The Department consists of three primary divisions: Engineering & Operations, Environmental, and Administration. Current openings are available within the Engineering & Operations Division.

Work Environment:
This position provides a flexible schedule, with the potential for telecommuting one day per week after the training period, subject to departmental discretion.

Compensation and Benefits:

Team Dynamics:
The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources is dedicated to the effective management of the solid waste system. The Department operates multiple non-hazardous landfills and oversees contracts for waste disposal and transfer station leases.

Engineering Challenges:
Landfill sites present diverse geographic and climatic challenges, requiring innovative engineering solutions to meet the operational demands of a dynamic system. The Department is committed to maintaining a minimum of fifteen years of disposal capacity to accommodate future waste projections.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. A minimum of four years of professional civil engineering experience is required, including two years in areas such as pollution remediation, landfill planning, design, or construction.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in landfill construction and engineering, along with supervisory roles in public works or engineering units, is highly desirable.

Knowledge and Skills:
Applicants should be well-versed in engineering principles related to sanitary landfills, flood control, and water conservation, as well as environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance.
