Position Overview

The Senior Internal Auditor plays a crucial role in the formulation and implementation of the Internal Audit Strategy. This position is responsible for planning and executing audit activities tailored to the specific risks associated with various projects, and subsequently reporting the findings of these audits. The Senior Internal Auditor may also oversee the contributions of other Internal Audit personnel and collaborate with Prisma Health staff during these evaluations. Results are communicated to the executive team and management of the departments being audited.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Internal Audit and Compliance, along with the Internal Audit Manager, in pinpointing potential vulnerabilities and risks. This includes conducting comprehensive project planning for audit initiatives, which involves defining project scope, interviewing relevant personnel, identifying controls, performing process walkthroughs, assessing potential risks, and formulating suitable audit procedures to evaluate controls and mitigate identified risks. - 10%
  • Initiate and execute assurance audit procedures, documenting findings in organized work papers. Collaborate with management to develop corrective action plans aimed at enhancing internal controls. - 50%
  • Conduct consultative audits and inquiries into suspected breaches of regulations, policies, and the Prisma Health Code of Excellence. Work alongside various departments to address compliance and process improvement challenges. Facilitate discussions among department representatives to collaboratively resolve process-related issues, ensuring solutions benefit the organization as a whole. Contribute to the development or revision of policy directives to maintain their relevance and effectiveness. Lead educational initiatives that cover essential topics, fostering an ethical workplace and enhancing internal controls. - 10%
  • Prepare comprehensive written reports that summarize current findings, desired outcomes, and critical recommendations, while referencing applicable policies and regulations. Conduct debriefing sessions with executive management to present findings and suggested corrective actions. Provide periodic updates and analyses of Internal Audit achievements and areas for enhancement to senior leadership. Establish and maintain effective communication channels within the organization to promote awareness of control and compliance issues. - 20%
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and legislative developments that may impact Internal Audit functions. Continuously enhance audit skills, including proficiency in computer-assisted audit techniques and IT auditing. Build networks with external entities to elevate the organization's reputation within the region and state. - 10%

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not include management responsibilities and reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Health Administration, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Internal or External Audit, Compliance, or Public Accounting, with a preference for Internal Audit or Compliance Audit experience.

A Master's Degree along with 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience.

Essential Skills

  • Preferred certifications include CIA, CPA, or CISA.
  • A Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficient research, investigative, and problem-solving abilities are required.
