Position Overview

The Onshore Well Operations Technician plays a crucial role in the effective management of well work activities. This position involves the preparation of financial estimates, the generation of Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) documents, and the scheduling of various well work tasks. The technician will provide essential technical support to field operations while working primarily from the Houston Corporate office, with the possibility of remote work two days a week, subject to supervisor approval.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement efficient workover procedures.
  • Offer operational and technical assistance to onsite supervisors overseeing completion and workover activities.
  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates and justify AFEs for workover projects.
  • Document and analyze operational lessons learned.
  • Execute tasks with a strong commitment to Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards.
  • Assess the performance of well completion and workover programs, integrating lessons learned into best practices.
  • Maintain and prioritize well work rig schedules to optimize production and reduce costs.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and identify areas for improvement, hosting quarterly KPI reviews.
  • Participate in quarterly well work and safety meetings, including day trips for pump analysis.
  • Support wellbore preparation, cleanout tasks, and liner installation for refracturing operations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of daily well reports, tubing, and rod tallies.
  • Oversee invoice approvals.
  • Maintain a comprehensive failure database for well work activities.
  • Ensure all operations comply with the Murphy Drilling and Wells Operating Policy (DWOP) Manual and Safety Manual.
  • Collaborate with the Well Work Coordinator to ensure operational support.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with well work equipment and operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP, and Wellview.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate self-motivation.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations for operational oversight.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
The successful candidate must adhere to all safety protocols. The role is primarily office-based, with minimal exposure to hazardous conditions. Some positions may require the ability to lift and transport items weighing up to 25 lbs. The candidate must be able to fulfill all essential physical job requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with well workover equipment and operations.
  • Familiarity with rod pump, gas lift, and plunger terminology.
  • Completion of Well Control School (to be obtained upon joining the team).
