Job Overview for Metal Finishing Specialist:

Responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of powder coating machinery.

The role involves applying high-quality powder coatings to metal components to fulfill customer specifications. Ensures uniform thickness and finish on all parts. Aids in the loading and unloading of items.

Key Responsibilities for Metal Finishing Specialist:

  • Identify the appropriate powder to be used based on job specifications and prepare the powder coating equipment accordingly.
  • Apply powder coatings to components utilizing correct techniques and patterns.
  • Maintain cleanliness of machines, equipment, and workspaces between tasks.
  • Assist with masking parts and ensuring areas are free from coatings as per customer requirements.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to receive directives and coordinate efforts.
  • Maintain the powder storage area in an organized manner.

Additional Responsibilities for Metal Finishing Specialist:

  • Transfer newly received powders into storage.
  • Empty waste powder containers as necessary.
  • Dispose of outdated powders in accordance with safety guidelines.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Metal Finishing Specialist:

  • Understanding of powder coating principles, including electrostatics and application equipment. Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment and quality issues.
  • Proficient in operating powder application equipment, including electrostatic guns and reclaim systems, with a willingness to guide others in proper techniques.
  • Ensure parts are adequately prepared for coating, including oil removal and cleanliness.
  • Knowledge of effective hanging strategies for parts to optimize the coating process.
  • Basic understanding of chemical pretreatment processes for parts.
  • Capability to manage and monitor all application equipment to achieve consistent quality and efficiency.

Experience and Education for Metal Finishing Specialist:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in manufacturing; experience in powder coating is preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Special Conditions for Metal Finishing Specialist:

  • Work environment includes exposure to dust, grease, and metal shavings.
  • Personal protective equipment required includes safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, and hearing protection.

Must Be Capable Of:

  • Working safely in a dynamic environment.
  • Committing to overtime and weekend work as needed.
