Job Overview for Metal Finishing Technician:

Responsible for setting up, operating, and managing grinding and related machinery to eliminate excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, and buff, hone, or polish metal components.

Key Responsibilities for Metal Finishing Technician:

  • Operate all machinery for grinding, deburring, sanding, and polishing, demonstrating proficiency in grinding sheet metal.
  • Inspect and assess the surface of workpieces for defects.
  • Maneuver the grinder over the surface of workpieces to eliminate scratches and imperfections.
  • Polish ground areas using finer abrasives to achieve a smooth, flawless finish.

Additional Responsibilities for Metal Finishing Technician:

  • Replace worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts as necessary.
  • Select appropriate grades of abrasive belts, wheels, or disks based on specifications.
  • Provide assistance in other production areas as required.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Metal Finishing Technician:

  • Basic technical knowledge of grinding tools and their safe operation.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and perform repetitive tasks.

Experience and Education for Metal Finishing Technician:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 – 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Special Requirements for Metal Finishing Technician:

  • Work in a machine shop environment; exposure to dust, grease, and metal shavings is common.
  • Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes/boots.

Must be capable of:

  • Working safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working overtime, including weekends when required.
