Position Title: Chief of Government Relations

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $125,000 - $135,000

Classification: Exempt

Location: Denver, CO

Role Summary:

The Chief of Government Relations serves under the President/CEO and is tasked with articulating the organization's mission and initiatives to a variety of stakeholders. This role is crucial in advising the leadership and Board of Directors on policy matters and current events that could influence the tourism sector in Denver. Additionally, this position holds the authority to manage staffing decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote the organization's vision and values through exemplary conduct, collaboration, innovation, and community commitment.
  • Advance initiatives related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  • Forge and sustain robust relationships with local, state, and federal entities, including government officials, community organizations, and business leaders.
  • Inform and educate policymakers on critical issues affecting the Bureau and the tourism sector.
  • Evaluate electoral measures and their implications for the Bureau and the tourism industry.
  • Monitor and analyze local, state, and national developments that could impact Denver's tourism landscape.
  • Maintain an informative platform for stakeholders regarding tourism-related economic impacts and benefits.
  • Advise the Board of Directors on policy matters that may affect the organization’s mission.
  • Support the Government and Community Affairs Committee in agenda setting and speaker arrangements.
  • Coordinate activities related to the Tourism Improvement District.
  • Act as a representative of the organization, ensuring its perspectives are communicated effectively on significant issues.
  • Engage with various civic and community boards where tourism interests may be influenced.
  • Provide updates to partners through newsletters and alerts on pertinent industry issues.
  • Track the progress of the Denver Tourism Roadmap and assist in strategic planning efforts.
  • Contribute to workforce development initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Government Affairs, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in government relations or community engagement, with a solid understanding of policy advocacy and legislative processes.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Capability to bend, stoop, and reach as needed.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.

Skills:

  • Proven experience in liaising with diverse stakeholders, including government officials and community organizations.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Political acumen and the ability to navigate sensitive issues.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in technology applications, including MS Office and client management software.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
