Position Overview
The Audit Division of the OIG is in search of dedicated professionals to assess Department of Justice programs and processes. The goal is to provide recommendations for enhancements while identifying and mitigating fraud, waste, and misuse of resources.

Key Responsibilities
The Performance Auditor will engage in a comprehensive range of activities to facilitate the audit of government programs, contracts, grants, and payments. Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and executing audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS).
  • Identifying weaknesses in programs, systems, or controls and proposing actionable solutions.
  • Conducting assessments of internal control frameworks.
  • Preparing detailed findings and reports that communicate technical information and analyses to relevant stakeholders.
  • Addressing challenges such as uncooperative auditees or non-responsive interviewees.
  • Utilizing project experience to identify potential audit areas through risk analysis.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A degree in Auditing or a related field, or a combination of education and experience totaling at least four years in Performance Auditing.
  • A certification as a Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Public Accountant, or relevant coursework in auditing or accounting.

Specialized Experience
For the GS-13 level, candidates should have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12, including:

  • Conducting complex audits in an Office of Inspector General or similar environment.
  • Developing comprehensive audit programs that define scope and assess risk.
  • Interpreting relevant laws and regulations.
  • Preparing reports with recommendations for policy enhancements.
