Desert Regional Medical Center is a prominent 385-bed acute-care facility recognized as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma center, featuring a cutting-edge, patient-focused Rehabilitation Services Department. Our dedicated team offers a comprehensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, and outpatient therapy, along with specialized hand and lymphedema clinics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nursing Manager is accountable for overseeing all elements of their clinical area(s)/department, which encompasses daily assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of quality patient care delivery in a cost-efficient manner. This role involves organizing workflows, supervising staff, fostering employee development, managing budgets, ensuring quality assurance, and driving process improvements within the department and Cancer Center. The manager acts as a clinical support and resource for staff, aligning with the mission goals, objectives, educational, and research initiatives of both the Cancer and Medical Centers.

Responsibilities include the creation, implementation, and monitoring of essential programs and services related to the comprehensive spectrum of breast and breast cancer care, as well as diagnostic imaging.

These services are integral to Desert Regional Medical Center's vision of establishing unique environments where patients, families, physicians, and staff collaborate to enhance the quality of life in the battle against cancer.

DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Develop and manage the overall budget for the Breast Center and diagnostic radiology, establishing and achieving volume and revenue targets for comprehensive services.
  2. Represent the Comprehensive Breast Center in relevant administrative, clinical, medical, and community meetings.
  3. Oversee staff operations, addressing issues, facilitating training on new equipment and procedures, and orienting new staff. This may include recruitment and performance management. Conduct weekly operational meetings with medical and clinical staff.
  4. Plan and direct the implementation of comprehensive breast center and diagnostic radiology services, including equipment acquisition, adhering to the strategic plan for program development.
  5. Manage facilities, ensuring compliance with regulations and effective use of space and equipment.
  6. Maintain and update the departmental policy/procedure manual as necessary.
  7. Direct all clinical and non-clinical activities regarding services, programs, and staffing needs. Coordinate staffing and work schedules, develop and implement policies and procedures, participate in quality assurance, and provide training for new employees. Conduct annual performance evaluations and facilitate educational opportunities for staff development, fostering a positive work environment that encourages open communication.
  8. Organizational Focus:
    1. Identify and establish departmental goals aligned with the Center's mission and organizational objectives; facilitate interdepartmental coordination to identify growth opportunities and ensure the maintenance of quality patient care.
  9. Cost Management and Quality Outcomes:
    1. Monitor FTE and operating budget variances, implementing effective action plans. Communicate budgetary information to staff, seeking input to enhance productivity and efficiency. Develop and evaluate productivity standards and quality control measures, monitoring improvement trends.
  10. Function as a positive and effective leader, establishing high standards and performance expectations. Serve as a role model and clinical resource, providing guidance and professional development. Monitor patient management to ensure the delivery of safe and effective nursing care, advocating for patients in the coordination of quality care.
  11. Professional Development:
    1. Engage in professional development activities aligned with departmental goals, participating in programs for growth and utilizing educational opportunities to enhance performance and career advancement.
  12. Regulatory Compliance:
    1. Ensure adherence to Federal, State, and Municipal laws and regulations regarding safety, employment practices, accreditation, and reimbursement. Comply with all Medical Center policies and procedures, completing quality assurance monitoring and implementing necessary changes based on outcomes. Address customer and staff complaints promptly and effectively, contributing to customer satisfaction initiatives.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  1. Current CA RN License (must be maintained at all times).
  2. Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (must be maintained at all times).
  3. Compliance with regulatory requirements (i.e., TJC) appropriate for the position.
  4. Experience in oncology.
  5. Background in ambulatory care.
  6. Leadership skills to mentor staff and facilitate daily operations.
  7. Ability to serve as a liaison for the Medical Center and physician groups.
  8. Teaching and educational skills required for training patients, caregivers, and staff.
  9. Experience in public speaking and strong writing skills.
  10. Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.
  11. Knowledge of hospital operations and regulations.
  12. Experience in business and program development.
  13. Skills in physician relations and recruiting.
  14. Understanding of healthcare management.
  15. Strong customer service orientation.
  16. Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
  17. Experience in staff development.
  18. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  19. Ability to mediate and resolve conflicts.
  20. Experience in program and product line development.
  21. Strong organizational skills.

Preferred:

  1. BSN and MSN preferred.

Shift: Days

Pay Range: $116,480 - $187,200, determined based on qualifications and experience.
