We are seeking an experienced Government Accounting Manager to join our team at one of our Ohio office locations. This role involves supervising, directing, and reviewing the results of a Government Financial Statement Compilation/Preparation client engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising clients on various accounting and compliance matters within their industry, resolving complex accounting issues, and supervising and training associates.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB) and Accrual Accounting, with prior supervisory experience. They will also possess excellent communication and people development skills, as well as the ability to resolve complex accounting issues and be responsible for business development and marketing.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision: Responsible for the supervision of Associates, Senior Associates, and Supervisors on all projects, including review of work prepared by the team, provision of review comments, and provision of verbal and written performance feedback.
  • Governmental GAAP: Applies knowledge and understanding of governing principles, applies these principles to client transactions, and documents and communicates an understanding and application of these principles.
  • Research: Defines methodology to conduct research projects and completes in a timely manner, applies comprehensive knowledge of all appropriate research tools, and draws conclusions based upon appropriate research.
  • Job Performance: Plans and reviews the preparation process and the procedures to be performed, including budgeting and staffing, monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget, timely billing, and timely collection of A/R.
  • Client Relations: Monitors and communicates important professional, industry pronouncements, builds long-lasting relationships with clients, attends critical client meetings with Partner-In-Charge, and attends networking events.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent required.
  • Licensed CPA.
  • Five (5) or more years prior work experience in public accounting or industry equivalent, to include experiences with Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB's) or Accrual Accounting.
  • Prior significant supervisory experience a plus.
  • WebGAAP experience a plus.
  • Experience in the use of various assurance applications and research tools as is appropriate for this level.
  • Microsoft Office Products, including Windows, Word, Excel, Adobe, and PowerPoint.

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Solid GAAP experience, with Governmental experience a plus.
  • Proven solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent people development and delegation skills, including training/instruction and engagement scheduling and budgeting.
  • Executive presence - need to be able to be primary contact for the client, prepare and present presentations to clients and potential clients.
  • Client development/relationship-building skills.
  • Solid decision-making skills.
  • Able to resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Able to be responsible for business development and marketing.
  • Able to be responsible for engagement profitability including billings and collections.
