Position Overview

The advanced practice provider (APP) delivers patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based care throughout the healthcare continuum, employing an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. As board-certified providers, APPs take on the responsibility and accountability for the stabilization, promotion, and maintenance of both acute and chronic health conditions. This role is integral to the organization's mission and vision, ensuring the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the parameters established by state regulations and organizational bylaws. The APP is dedicated to upholding a culture of clinical excellence, respect, innovation, and academic inquiry through collaborative practice with all members of the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

  • • Deliver safe, comprehensive, and compassionate clinical care.
    • ◦ Conduct patient assessments, synthesize and analyze data, order diagnostic tests and therapeutic interventions, and evaluate clinical outcomes.
    • ◦ Collaborate with interprofessional team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
    • ◦ Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribe medications and complex treatment regimens while monitoring for both desired and adverse outcomes, particularly for infants and children with high-risk, complex acute, critical, or chronic conditions.
  • • Utilize evidence-based medicine relevant to neonatal and pediatric populations.
  • • Continuously assess the interplay between access, cost, quality, safety, and their impact on healthcare outcomes and sustainability.
  • • Take on a leadership role to establish and uphold standards of practice, enhancing patient care through knowledge sharing, team leadership, and program development.
  • • Consider the developmental needs of the child and the family's readiness and resources when conveying health information, education, and support.
  • • Demonstrate understanding of relevant regulations, rules, and legislation pertaining to APP practice, licensure, certification, and billing compliance.
  • • Maintain accurate records of credentialed procedures performed and demonstrate proficiency in executing specialty skills.
  • • Advocate for the needs of children and their families throughout the healthcare continuum, ensuring optimal patient and family experiences.

Education Requirements

  • Education as mandated by the Department of Health and Human Services-Regulation and Licensure Credentialing Division, specifically APRN licensure in the State of Nebraska is required.

Experience Requirements

  • Prior experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in pediatrics or neonatal care is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • • Meet all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professionals, required for credentialing.
  • • Maintain a practice agreement with the specialty service and operate within the framework of the respective scope of practice.
  • • Possess knowledge of billing regulations, including documentation requirements and CPT coding regulations.
  • • Understand the physical, mental, developmental, emotional, and social needs of neonates, infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children, and adolescents.
  • • Stay current in the field through reading relevant journals, networking, and attending conferences or seminars.
  • • Demonstrate the ability to perform a variety of tasks, often shifting from one to another without loss of efficiency or composure, and manage multiple requests under stress, showcasing prioritization skills.
  • • Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, effectively collaborating with various disciplines.
  • • Be self-directed, requiring minimal supervision, and detail-oriented.

Licenses and Certifications

  • • Current and valid unrestricted Nebraska state licensure (e.g., APRN, PA, RN) is required.
  • • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 180 days is required.
  • • DEA License - Maintain an active Federal DEA license within 30 days is required.
  • • PNP-BC - Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification is required.
  • • CPNP-AC - Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (PICU, CCU) certification is required.
  • • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NICU only) within 1 year is required.
  • • ACLS (CCU only) certification within 180 days is required.
  • • Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professionals, required for credentialing.
