Cornell University Animal Behavior Medicine Residency

The Cornell University Animal Behavior Medicine Residency is a three-year intensive specialty training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB). This program is supported by two board-certified veterinary behaviorists and one trainer.

Program Overview

This position is sponsored by the Duffield Institute for Animal Behavior, which is endowed by a $12.1M grant from the Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation. The institute will be a world leader in advancing the discipline of animal behavior and will build on Cornell's expertise to better understand animal behavior and improve the lives of pets and people who share their lives with them.

Responsibilities
  • Residents will see referral behavior cases at the Behavior specialty clinic at Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA), primary behavior cases at Cornell Small Animal Community Practice (SACP), and participate in the shelter medicine outreach program.
  • Residents will participate in teaching veterinary students and house officers in accordance with ACVB requirements.
  • Residents will complete two-week clinical rotations in neurology and one-week rotation in dermatology and internal medicine.
  • Residents will have time for coursework, journal club, book club, and research project.
Requirements
  • The candidate must hold a DVM or equivalent degree.
  • Completion of a one-year internship program is required or equivalent in practice.
  • The ideal candidate is independent, highly motivated, a good communicator, and a strong team player.
  • Pre-employment background check will be required.
  • Non-compete agreement required.

Applicants from both foreign and American colleges of veterinary medicine are welcome to apply. All positions open to US citizens (or permanent residents) and Canadian citizens or those with valid employment authorization. Canadian citizens will be sponsored for a TN visa for NAFTA professionals. Canadian applicants from Quebec must provide English Language proficiency documentation as well as certified translations of transcripts and veterinary degree.
