Cornell University Animal Behavior Medicine Residency Program

The Cornell University Animal Behavior Medicine Residency Program is a three-year intensive specialty training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB). This program is supported by two board-certified veterinary behaviorists and one trainer.

Program Overview

The residency program has a high caseload, with small animals making up most of it, and some equine, exotic animal, and lab animal consultations. Residents will see referral behavior cases at the Behavior specialty clinic at Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA), primary behavior cases at Cornell Small Animal Community Practice (SACP), and participate in the shelter medicine outreach program.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in teaching veterinary students and house officers
  • Complete two-week clinical rotations in neurology and one-week rotation in dermatology and internal medicine
  • Support time for coursework, journal club, book club, and research project
Requirements
  • Hold a DVM or equivalent degree
  • Completion of a one-year internship program is required or equivalent in practice
  • Be independent, highly motivated, a good communicator, and a strong team player
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Sign a non-compete agreement
Eligibility

Applicants from both foreign and American colleges of veterinary medicine are welcome to apply. All positions are open to US citizens (or permanent residents) and Canadian citizens or those with valid employment authorization.

Additional Information

Foreign national applicants must provide an English Language proficiency documentation. Certified translations and US third-party equivalency certification of transcripts and veterinary degree are required.
