About the Role

The Medical Bills Specialist is a key member of our Workers' Compensation Support Team at Horwitz, Horwitz & Associates. We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to join our team in this critical role.

Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze client medical records and bills for accuracy and identification of possible missing providers and dates of service
  • Create comprehensive lists of medical providers to obtain all relevant medical bills
  • Obtain and document all medical bills related to the clients' case
  • Maintain and update case-related notes, including pertinent medical bill details, in the appropriate database
  • Create a final billing summary showing detailed breakdown of the total charges, payments made, and any unpaid balances
  • Ensure invoices are submitted, processed, and documented accurately and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate flexibility to shift priorities at the direction of the lead attorney based on the case flow and changing deadlines
  • Adhere to deadlines and maintain database calendar(s)
  • Exhibit strong time management by prioritizing competing tasks
  • Maintain positive working relationships internally and with third parties
Requirements
  • 1-year minimum experience in medical billing/coding or workers' compensation medical records/bills
  • Experience in a workers' compensation firm a plus
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, regulations, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 suite, with proficiency in Excel, highly preferred
  • Able to work both independently and contribute to a positive team environment
  • Self-motivated and goal-driven
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills
  • Superior attention to detail and a high level of organization skills
  • Commitment to providing outstanding customer service to both internally and externally
