Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team as a Purchased Referred Care Coordinator at Tohono O'odham Nation Healthcare. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the Purchased Referred Care program, ensuring seamless communication with clinical teams, patients, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Referral Coordination: Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure timely and accurate patient referrals, following the current PRC mapping process.
  • Eligibility Determination: Determine patient eligibility, scope, and priority for the PRC program, ensuring compliance with program guidelines.
  • Referral Management: Enter necessary referrals into the RCIS system, assist patients in scheduling referred appointments, and provide education on special instructions for referred visits.
  • Follow-up and Communication: Follow up on referred visits to ensure the referring facility receives visit records, and coordinate follow-up primary care visits as necessary.
  • Program Administration: Implement decisions made for the provision or denial of services, ensure effective and maximum utilization of PRC funds, and maintain a follow-up system to ensure adequate funds are set aside for authorized referrals.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Compile statistical and fiscal data reports to determine funds required to meet the PRC program's needs, and prepare PRC financial status reports, budget needs, forecasts, and other required reports.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with Hospital and Clinic professional and para-professional staff, local providers, tribal health committees, and vendors to ensure seamless coordination and communication.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma and one year of work experience in a medical business office function, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Must possess a certification of completing an approved medical assistant training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. OR; A current and active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT). OR; The completion of a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States.
  • Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions, knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations, and requirements, and knowledge of medical codes derived from the Indian Health Service Standard Code Book and the Contract Medical Care System Handbook.
