Job Overview

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse delivers comprehensive and professional nursing services to clients in accordance with established protocols, policies, and client requirements.

The work is typically reviewed upon completion, with occasional evaluations during the process to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established standards. Major tasks are guided by specific instructions or procedures, while unusual circumstances are escalated to a supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional nursing care to clients.
  • Participate in weekly rounds at the service unit and as necessary.
  • Implement tailored treatment plans and Plans of Care.
  • Monitor and follow up with clients in various healthcare settings.
  • Provide on-call telephone support and respond to client inquiries promptly.
  • Conduct initial evaluations and assessments for all clients, identifying discharge planning needs.
  • Document all client interactions in a timely manner.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by the physician.
  • Assist clients with medication management and monitoring.
  • Manage wound care effectively, treating and monitoring wounds as per physician orders.
  • Provide urinary management care proficiently.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms of illness or changes in condition.
  • Exhibit comprehensive nursing assessment skills.
  • Provide first aid for common illnesses and injuries.
  • Administer immunizations and collect samples for medical testing.
  • Accurately obtain and assess vital signs.
  • Oversee all aspects of client care, including dietary and physical activity considerations.
  • Interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess client conditions.
  • Prepare clients for examinations, treatments, and appointments, including transportation.
  • Manage Durable Medical Equipment and medical supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians regarding client needs and changes in condition.
  • Coordinate client care services with community resources, agencies, or hospitals.
  • Collaborate with other health divisions and services to ensure efficient client treatment.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating care standards, quality assurance, and infection control activities.
  • Educate staff on infection control practices.
  • Provide counseling and education to clients and families on preventive and rehabilitative measures.
  • Supervise and instruct less experienced nursing staff, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Submit all required documentation related to client care and established policies.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through research, seminars, workshops, and networking.
  • Generate weekly work schedules.
  • Attend case conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as required.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned and contribute to team efforts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the Tohono O'odham culture and traditions.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and tribal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
  • Proficiency in basic medical care procedures.
  • Experience in performing sterile procedures.
  • Awareness of medications and their side effects.
  • Understanding of diabetes and related health disparities.
  • Proficient in documentation and Electronic Health Records usage.
  • Skills in wound management, including V.A.C. therapy.
  • Ability to analyze problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Compassionate communication skills.
  • Ability to manage stress effectively.
  • Physical capability to lift and transfer clients and equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing with three years of nursing experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must hold a valid license from the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
  • Home Health Nursing experience is preferred.
  • Current certifications in CPR, AED, and First Aid are required.
  • A criminal background check and National FBI check are necessary for employment suitability.
  • A valid driver's license may be required.
  • Fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English may be necessary based on departmental needs.
