Position Overview:

Under close supervision, the role is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and productive atmosphere for the residents of the group home. This position emphasizes the importance of respecting the rights and dignity of each resident.

The work is regularly monitored for accuracy and adherence to established protocols, with most tasks guided by detailed instructions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, dressing, and other related activities as assigned.
  • Coordinate and accompany residents to medical appointments.
  • Administer medication to residents in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Engage in activities that maintain the cleanliness and order of the home.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures among residents; implement disciplinary measures as necessary.
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals to residents.
  • Maintain detailed logs of resident behavior and review previous shift notes for relevant information.
  • Participate in the counseling and treatment of residents with behavioral or physical challenges.
  • Provide guidance to residents on healthy habits and personal care.
  • Plan and lead recreational activities, actively participating or instructing residents.
  • Transport residents to designated activities and appointments.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through participation in meetings, training sessions, and workshops.
  • Support individual development by identifying issues and referring them to supervisors.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of O'odham traditions, language, history, and culture.
  • Familiarity with relevant federal, state, and tribal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA).
  • Ability to deliver exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in homemaking tasks, including meal preparation and housekeeping.
  • Skill in assisting with personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Capacity to work effectively with individuals, demonstrating leadership and teamwork with empathy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Aptitude for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Capability to work independently and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and varied schedules.
  • Ability to travel within the Tohono O'odham Nation's boundaries.

Minimum Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma along with three years of experience working with children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

Licenses, Certifications, and Special Requirements:

  • Must obtain a Food Handler's Card within three months of employment.
  • Must acquire certifications in CPR, AED, and First Aid within the first six months of employment.
  • A criminal background check and National FBI check are required upon recommendation for hire.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license may be necessary, with no DUIs or major traffic violations in the past three years.
  • May need to meet the Tohono O'odham Nation's insurance requirements for operating program vehicles.
  • Fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English may be required based on departmental needs.
