Position Overview

The Clinical Assistant plays a vital role in delivering direct patient care and enhancing the efficiency of operations within the healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities in direct patient care include obtaining vital signs, collecting blood samples, and assisting nursing and medical personnel in performing procedures such as bone marrow aspirates.

In addition to direct care, the Clinical Assistant supports clinic operations through tasks such as ordering and managing clinical supplies, educating patients, transporting patients and specimens, and ensuring a safe and clean environment.

This role is based onsite and requires full-time commitment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate patient identification and uphold safety, privacy, and confidentiality standards in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Accurately record vital signs, pain assessments, and other relevant data into Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Report any abnormalities or changes in patient conditions to the appropriate medical staff promptly.
  • Collect and label specimens correctly, instructing patients and family members as necessary.
  • Perform phlebotomy and EKG procedures as required, adhering to the two-patient identifier practice.
  • Assist with specific procedural needs of the disease center as applicable.
  • Transport patients, medical records, specimens, and supplies in compliance with institutional policies.
  • Maintain adequate stock of medical supplies and assist with medical record preparation.
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of equipment and patient care areas.
  • Utilize current computer systems effectively in clinical settings.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding their status and any concerns.
  • Participate in mandatory training and educational sessions, completing annual competency assessments as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; college coursework is preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or equivalent experience in a clinical role.
  • Phlebotomy certification may be preferred based on location.
  • BLS Certification is required within a specified timeframe.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical skills and respectful behavior towards colleagues and patients.
