Position Overview

OBJECTIVES:
The role involves the construction, maintenance, and testing of mechanical systems, machinery, and components. Responsibilities include identifying parts that require replacement and ordering new components as necessary. Candidates may need to complete an apprenticeship or formal training in their specialty area. Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the mechanical field is essential. The position relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and achieve goals while performing a variety of tasks under general supervision. A degree of creativity and independence is expected. Typically reports to a senior assembly mechanic or production manager.

  • Fulfill the responsibilities of an Assembly Mechanic I.
  • Assemble new pump units and assist in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ensure test standards and equipment are maintained in accordance with ISO procedures.
  • Understand and comply with environmental policies.
  • Interpret Sales Orders and Production Orders to ascertain assembly requirements.
  • Verify materials supplied by the Parts Department against the Pick List prior to assembly.
  • Construct pump units to meet production schedules.
  • Conduct pre-tests on units before forwarding them to Quality Control for final evaluation.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School diploma or GED is required; completion of a technical or vocational training program is preferred. Industry certification is advantageous.
  • Two years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the operational principles of diesel engines and industrial hydraulic pumps, including diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with portable construction pumps, pipe fusing, dewatering, and wastewater bypass operations is highly desirable.
  • Represent Thompson Pump & Manufacturing Co., Inc. in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner with clients and colleagues.
  • Maintain professional standards of quality and productivity in work.
  • Possess a solid understanding of D.C. electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledgeable in engine construction and operational principles for both gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting guides.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in both team settings and independently.
