OBJECTIVES:
The role involves the construction, maintenance, and testing of mechanical systems, machinery, and components. Responsibilities include identifying parts that require replacement and managing orders for new components as needed. Candidates may need to undergo an apprenticeship or formal training in their area of expertise. Familiarity with standard practices and concepts within the mechanical field is essential. The position relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and achieve objectives while performing a variety of tasks under general supervision. A degree of creativity and independence is expected. Typically reports to a senior assembly mechanic or production manager.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of an Assembly Mechanic I.
- Assemble new pumps and assist in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ensure test standards and equipment are maintained in line with ISO procedures.
- Understand and comply with environmental policies.
- Interpret Sales Orders and Production Orders to ascertain assembly requirements.
- Verify materials provided by the Parts Department against the Pick List prior to assembly.
- Construct pump units in accordance with the Production Schedule.
- Conduct pre-tests on units before they are sent to Quality Control for final evaluation.
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A High School diploma or GED is required; completion of a technical or vocational training program is preferred. Industry certification is a plus.
- Two years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the principles of diesel engines and industrial hydraulic pumps, including diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Experience with portable construction pumps, pipe fusing, and dewatering operations is highly desirable.
- Must represent Thompson Pump & Manufacturing Co., Inc. in a professional and respectful manner towards customers and colleagues.
- Accountable for maintaining high standards of quality and productivity in work.
- Proficient understanding of D.C. electrical systems and troubleshooting is essential.
- Knowledgeable in engine construction and operational principles for both gasoline and diesel engines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Capability to read wiring diagrams and troubleshooting manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both in teams and independently.
