Job Overview

POSITION OBJECTIVES:
The role involves the construction, maintenance, and testing of mechanical systems, machinery, and components. Responsibilities include identifying parts that require replacement and ordering necessary components. Candidates may need to complete an apprenticeship or formal training in their specialty area. Familiarity with standard practices and concepts within the mechanical field is essential. The position relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and execute various tasks under general supervision, allowing for a degree of creativity and independence. Typically reports to a higher-level Assembly Mechanic or Production Manager.

  • Fulfill the requirements of an Assembly Mechanic I.
  • Assemble new pumps and assist in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ensure testing standards and equipment are maintained according to ISO protocols.
  • Understand and comply with environmental policies.
  • Interpret Sales Orders and Production Orders to ascertain assembly requirements.
  • Verify materials provided by the Parts Department against the Pick List prior to assembly.
  • Construct pump units in alignment with the Production Schedule.
  • Conduct pre-tests on units before they are sent to Quality Control for final assessment.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School diploma or GED is required; completion of a technical or vocational training program is preferred. Industry certification is advantageous.
  • Two years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the principles of diesel engines and industrial hydraulic pumps, including diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with portable construction pumps, pipe fusing, and dewatering operations is highly desirable.
  • Represent Thompson Pump & Manufacturing Co., Inc. professionally and courteously with customers and colleagues.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and productivity in work.
  • Possess a solid understanding of D.C. electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledgeable in engine construction and operational principles for both gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Capable of reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting manuals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively both in teams and independently.
