About the Role
nLIGHT is a rapidly growing vertically integrated supplier of high-performance lasers that enable innovation in materials processing, microelectronics and defense applications. We are seeking a skilled High Power Laser Technologist to contribute to our cross-functional development teams to deliver innovative lasers.

Job Description
The primary job function is to assist Principal Investigators in nLight's laser research and development programs and execute these programs while ensuring alignment to nLight's short-term product and long-term technology roadmaps. The successful candidate will be highly motivated with an excellent track record of innovation in optics, lasers and optoelectronics and bringing their development efforts to timely, successful cost competitive completion. Key responsibilities include:
  • Contribute to cross-functional development teams to deliver innovative lasers.
  • Apply theoretical and experimental understanding of lasers and optics to develop next generation of commercial lasers.
  • Document and present designs, processes, and results for internal design reviews, external program reviews,
  • Perform all aspects of hands-on optical alignment of high power lasers
  • Test and characterization of high power lasers

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with 2+ year experience in high tech industry doing R&D, a Bachelor's degree in physics, optics, chemistry, engineering or other physical sciences. Strong knowledge of optical properties of III-V semiconductors and laser diodes is required. Experience with laser diode testing and solid analytical and problem-solving skills are also essential. A working theoretical and experimental understanding of lasers and optics, good mechanical skills, and good computer skills are necessary for success in this role. Estimated salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year based on location and experience.
