Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Medical and Surgical Unit as a Charge Nurse. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and supervising patient care, providing direct and indirect care as needed, and leading the discharge planning process for patients in Observation, Acute Inpatient, or Skilled levels of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient's physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social, and educational needs, and develop and implement individualized plans of care.
  • Evaluate and document patient/family responses to nursing interventions, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired patient care outcomes.
  • Provide or facilitate learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of patients and families, and assess learning needs to formulate and initiate teaching plans.
  • Effectively communicate pertinent patient changes/conditions to co-workers and multidisciplinary caregivers, and delegate and supervise patient care activities within the scope of practice of healthcare workers.
  • Identify and act to solve problems, support process improvement teams, and influence customer satisfaction, clinical outcomes, and financial stability.
  • Document patient information in the electronic/paper medical record, at the bedside, and as soon as possible, in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain active logons/passwords for computer software systems that support patient care and education, and support the ever-changing healthcare environment by embracing technology and process changes.
  • Serve as a steward for the hospital's human and material resources, meet productivity expectations of the unit/department, and recognize personal learning and development needs.
  • Participate in developing yearly performance goals, create a plan for professional or personal growth, and maintain required department confidentiality and abide by HIPAA regulations.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a program in professional nursing.
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Iowa required.
  • Completes Introduction to Telemetry class or equivalent within 3 months of hire.
  • Experience with computer software and willingness to learn new software (Excel, Microsoft, electronic health record, WorkDay, etc.).
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
  • Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.
  • Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
  • Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
  • Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
