Job Summary

The Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer plays a critical role in the success of Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, overseeing the financial, human resources, IT, facilities, safety, and administrative functions. Reporting directly to the President/CEO and the Board of Trustees, this strategic leader will coordinate and manage the Institute's operations to achieve its mission.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Financial Management: Direct and manage the organization's financial policies and functions, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  2. Human Resources: Manage and review all aspects of human resources, including benefit administration and training, to foster a positive and productive work environment.
  3. Facilities and Safety: Coordinate with the Facilities & Safety Manager and Chief Science Officer to oversee safety and facilities, including preventative maintenance and staff safety measures.
  4. IT Management: Oversee the Institute's IT consultants, ensuring reliable and up-to-date functioning of all IT systems.
  5. Operations Supervision: Supervise and support operations staff, including HR Manager, Accounting Manager, Front Desk Coordinator, Facility & Safety Manager, IT consultants, and other staff as needed.
  6. Corporate Secretary: Handle corporate responsibilities for the Board of Trustees and maintain the corporate record.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, Master's in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
  2. Nonprofit A-133 audit experience strongly preferred.
  3. Experience in all facets of accounting.
  4. Experience in managing administrative staff.
  5. Experience in human resources and benefit management.
  6. Experience in facilities management, laboratory management preferred.
  7. Experience in employee safety management.
  8. Ability to create, troubleshoot, and maintain Access databases preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  1. Ability to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  2. Ability to lift 20-pound boxes and load/unload vehicles.
  3. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
  4. Ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally, with access to a reliable vehicle.
  5. Availability to attend occasional evening and weekend events and meetings.
  6. Supports a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment where all staff, volunteers, and guests are respected and valued.
  7. Authorized to work in the United States.
