About Us:

At the United Way, we believe that WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER and that it is only through being UNITED that we can effect positive change in the world.

In Westchester and Putnam, over 40 percent of households are living in poverty or paycheck to paycheck, a situation we refer to as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). These are often hardworking families striving to provide a better life for their children. However, when financial resources dwindle, they face difficult choices between essential needs such as childcare or rent, medication or car repairs. They are our preschool teachers, home health aides, and retail workers – individuals vital to the functioning of our communities and economies, yet who struggle to meet their own basic needs.

We achieve our goals through three primary methods: first, by investing in programs with proven effectiveness. Second, we provide direct services to our community through initiatives like our 211 Helpline and Education United Afterschool Program. Finally, we foster collaborations with community stakeholders, leaders, and partners to transform the way we approach and resolve challenges.

We collaborate with numerous nonprofit partners and governmental agencies, positively impacting hundreds of thousands of individuals each year.
