Overview:

Role Significance:
The veterinarian will play a vital role within a dynamic team of staff and volunteers, collaborating effectively with both internal and external partners to advance the ASPCA's goal of ensuring that all animals lead fulfilling lives.

Work Schedule:
This position offers a three-day work week, allowing time for personal rejuvenation.

As one of the largest and most influential animal welfare organizations globally, you will have a robust support system to rely on.

  • The work schedule consists of 3 days per week (8-hour shifts, including one weekend day).

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver High-Quality Veterinary Care (60%):
Provide compassionate, efficient, and economical veterinary services to a diverse range of canines and felines, adhering to shelter medicine principles and best practices. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough medical examinations for in-house and foster animals upon admission, ensuring ongoing care as necessary.
  • Maintaining open communication with veterinary colleagues across various ASPCA programs regarding the care of hospitalized patients.
  • Creating Certificates of Veterinary Inspections (CVI) for animals transported across state lines.
  • Participating in daily Medical-Behavior-Sheltering rounds to make informed decisions regarding animal health and welfare.
  • Adhering to all Occupational Safety and Health Administration protocols.

Mentorship and Education (40%):
Contribute to a culture of learning within the Adoption Center by:

  • Teaching and mentoring veterinary nursing and animal care staff on shelter medicine principles.
  • Ensuring timely follow-up for adoptions and foster support.
  • Participating in interdepartmental meetings and training sessions.

Compensation:
The starting salary for this position will be influenced by various factors, including education, experience, and market conditions. The target salary range for this role is between $88,800 and $93,600, based on a 3-day/24-hour work week. A signing bonus is also included.
