Our mission is to facilitate the shift towards a decarbonized economy by concentrating our investments in sustainability-focused assets. Our commitment to sustainability not only shapes our investment strategies but also guides all our actions. We are an innovative team that continuously seeks new approaches in our operations, developing acquisition and financing structures that meet the needs of our investors and the evolving market landscape.

Since our establishment, we have successfully invested €11 billion and currently manage five distinct funds. Our team consists of over 600 professionals engaged in all critical aspects of the value chain, including development, construction, financing, operations, and energy management.

As we expand our footprint in North America, we are excited to announce the opening of our office in Durham, NC. This presents a unique opportunity to join a leading team in the industry and contribute to a rapidly growing success story.

Role Overview

The Investment Associate will be instrumental in advancing our business objectives. This role involves sourcing investment opportunities, collaborating with deal teams, and working closely with senior leadership at portfolio companies. The associate will serve as a vital link between portfolio companies and the partner overseeing the North American market, aiding in the growth of Qualitas' business in the USA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct sector research focused on renewable energy and energy transition in the USA to identify emerging investment themes and opportunities.
  • Engage with external advisors (financial, technical, market, and commercial due diligence) and build lasting relationships through industry networking, including participation in relevant events and conferences.
  • Oversee transaction execution, including due diligence coordination, negotiation, and documentation of essential commercial agreements, while managing external consultants and advisers.
  • Take full ownership of the valuation and investment model, ensuring accuracy and coherence with inputs from relevant sources and senior management.
  • Draft comprehensive investment memos that clearly outline the investment opportunity, including sector considerations, risk analysis, target returns, exit strategies, and final recommendations.
  • Collaborate with team members in the USA to evaluate investment opportunities as part of cross-functional teams.
  • Promote a meritocratic environment that recognizes and rewards hard work, commitment, and collaboration.
  • Monitor the performance of investments against business plans and engage with internal teams to optimize returns.
  • Effectively communicate key issues in discussions and written communications with senior management, influencing transaction outcomes across various stakeholders.
  • Adhere to the company's code of ethics and industry regulations, acting as a role model in ethical conduct.
  • Participate in team-building activities and contribute to building Qualitas Energy's brand in the USA while engaging in community initiatives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA preferred); an engineering degree with financial services experience may also be considered.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in the energy financial services sector, including investment banking, project finance, and principal investment.
  • Extensive experience in financial modeling within energy markets, with the ability to build models from the ground up.
  • Proven track record in executing transactions as a principal rather than solely as an advisor.
  • Strong understanding of energy markets, particularly the power sector, including commercial and regulatory aspects.
  • Expertise in commercial contracts, credit documentation, and negotiations, with a history of evaluating and negotiating legal documentation.
  • A growing network of relationships within the energy landscape, including developers, utilities, investors, and lenders in the USA.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional teamwork in complex and dynamic environments.
  • Leadership qualities, including resilience, patience, and empathy, to guide transaction execution alongside junior team members and partners.
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn quickly and work independently.
  • Proven capability to perform under pressure, meeting tight deadlines while managing multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication skills to influence diverse audiences through a balanced approach to deals and a clear understanding of risks.
