Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate care coordination for patients with complex needs by engaging with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to assess needs and streamline effective care.
  • Guide the healthcare team in managing outcomes and developing enhanced strategies for high-risk patients.
  • Conduct clinical evaluations based on established criteria to assess medical necessity across various payor types.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with health plan utilization departments regarding medical necessity for reviews.
  • Proactively address potential denials and manage appeals when necessary.
  • Collaborate with physicians to optimize resource utilization, including length of stay and cost per case.
  • Report directly to the Clinical Resource Management Director.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Active nursing license from the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse in direct patient care with proven clinical proficiency.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current certification as a Care Assessor for the State of Kansas or willingness to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Prior experience in case management or utilization review nursing.
