Position Overview

This position operates on a PRN basis.

Expanded Position Overview:

This role is classified as a "Safety-sensitive position" under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act. This classification includes any job that involves tasks or duties that could impact the safety and health of the employee or others. Employees in safety-sensitive roles are subject to disciplinary action for positive tests for marijuana or its metabolites.

Key Responsibilities:
To excel in this position, you must effectively perform the following essential functions:

  1. Assist with feeding patients, which may include direct feeding or setting up meal trays.
  2. Provide oral hygiene, nail care, and basic personal grooming for patients.
  3. Assist patients with bathing and dressing, which may involve bed baths, showers, or tub baths.
  4. Support patients in using the restroom, including assistance with mobility on and off the toilet or bedpan.
  5. Manage catheter bag changes and accurately chart fluid outputs.
  6. Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry, and temperature.
  7. Respond to call lights promptly.
  8. Turn bedridden patients to alleviate pressure points and prevent bedsores.
  9. Change bedding and handle soiled laundry.
  10. Maintain cleanliness and organization in patient rooms or areas.
  11. Document and relay requested information, such as patient moods, vital signs, meal intake, and bowel and urine outputs.
  12. Communicate effectively with the next shift's CNA or nursing staff.
  13. Engage in recreational activities with patients, such as walks or delivering reading materials.
  14. Provide post-mortem care as required.
  15. Deliver safe and effective nursing care, both directly and indirectly.
  16. Maintain courteous interactions with all hospital staff.
  17. Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team.
  18. Stay certified in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and remain knowledgeable about emergency protocols.

Additional Responsibilities:
Adhere to HIPAA regulations and comply with the company's mission, policies, and procedures. Support facility goals and objectives while maintaining excellent attendance and following all hospital rules. Foster open communication with patients, nurses, physicians, peers, supervisors, and students. Attend departmental meetings and in-services to stay informed about departmental and hospital developments. Ensure proper safety measures are followed in patient care.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Certified as a CNA in Oklahoma.
- BLS certification within 90 days of employment.
- Demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and professional judgment.

Education and Experience:
- Ability to operate complex medical equipment.
- Clinical competence in caring for patients across all age groups.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proof of required education at the time of hire.
- Preferred: 2 years of hospital experience.

Licensure/Certification:
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) in Oklahoma.
- BLS certified.
- Proof of all required licenses and certifications due at hire.

Language Skills:
- Proficient in English.
- Ability to read and interpret business documents, professional journals, and regulations.

Mathematical Skills:
- Competency in basic arithmetic operations.

Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions and solve problems.

Interpersonal Skills:
- Demonstrates active listening and fosters supportive relationships.
- Treats others with dignity and respect.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Regularly required to work in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated environment.
- Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Exposure to potential hazards such as bodily fluids and laboratory chemicals.
