Job Description

Overview

Insight for Living Ministries (IFLM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the Word of God through various media channels. As a General Ledger Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity and accuracy of our organization.

Position Summary

The General Ledger Accountant will be responsible for promoting and supporting the mission of IFLM by accurately journaling entries and reconciling accounts and bank statements. This role requires a detail-oriented and analytical individual who can work independently and as part of a team.

Core Job Functions

  • General Ledger, Month-End Closing (30%)
    • Reviews the general ledger to confirm all entries have been made for the appropriate month.
    • Reconciles and maintains balance sheet accounts and their schedules.
    • Works with other departments, including international offices, to create and post RFMs when received and processes closing entries.
    • Reconciles bank deposits to donor software.
  • Miscellaneous Reporting and Journal Entries (25%)
    • Processes monthly journal entries based on the month-end schedule and as directed by the department director.
    • Reviews the profit and loss statement at month-end to ensure that all entries needed for closing are recorded and balances the general ledger to the Balance Sheet.
  • Financial and Management Reports (10%)
    • Prepares monthly financial statements for management reports to be reviewed by the director, officers, the Insight for Living Ministries Board of Directors, and the audit team.
    • Creates quarterly financial reports for the bank.
  • Bank Reconciliations (15%)
    • Prepares bank statement reconciliations and determines any missing entries.
    • Creates files and uploads files to the appropriate bank accounts.
  • Professional Development (5%)
    • Commits to the challenges of growth and development according to the Professional Development Plan.
    • Pursues the designated knowledge and experience with a positive attitude.
    • Completes assigned tasks with excellence and in a timely manner.
  • Team Member Contribution (10%)
    • Models IFLM's core values through daily conduct.
    • Exerts initiative and drive to improve departmental and organizational operations.
    • Owns problems, creates solutions, and maintains personal accountability for results.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred, or five years specialized training and experience in a related field.
  • Ability to read and understand financials.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in creating and using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Experience with Great Plains a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Humility, a high level of flexibility, a positive attitude, and the ability to listen and work well with others.
  • Ability to juggle several complex projects, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to details with outstanding organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to perform analysis and calculations using Microsoft Excel.
  • An ability to anticipate and prioritize work with minimal direction.
