Job Overview

The Center for Workforce Inclusion is seeking a Recreation Planning Support Specialist to contribute to the Southwest Region 3 Coconino Nation Forest within the NFS Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program. This role is part of a grant-funded initiative aimed at supporting the U.S. Forest Service (NFS). Candidates must be 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States. A federal security background check will be required for selected candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the formulation of future recreation initiatives and permitting frameworks for the Red Rock Ranger District.
  • Engage in the creation of recreation management strategies, conducting field assessments, and offering specialized guidance on various recreation programs, which may encompass wilderness areas, wild and scenic rivers, National Recreation Areas, historic trails, and the construction and upkeep of recreational facilities.
  • Facilitate an interdisciplinary approach to crafting long-term action plans and short-term programs.
  • Independently devise new analytical methods or utilize existing practices to tackle issues related to recreation and land management. Provide expert recommendations concerning forest priorities and suggest modifications based on progress towards objectives, resource availability, economic fluctuations, emergency scenarios, production costs, and other factors affecting short-term planning.
  • Offer insights and guidance in evaluating current recreation usage, standards, and long-term planning for the maintenance and operation of recreational facilities. Review new initiatives or proposed changes to existing plans and coordinate actions on approved projects. Compile data regarding overall achievements for the Forest Leadership Team. Collaborate with the Forest Recreation Staff Officer to draft comprehensive policies, technical guidelines, standards, and methodologies related to recreation management.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States; must successfully pass a Federal Background check; possess a BA/BS degree; and have a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in a related field, with a specialization in Recreation Planning and Management. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. The position may involve travel, general office tasks, and field visits to locations that may present uneven terrain.

Work Schedule & Compensation: This is a part-time position requiring 29 hours of work per week at a rate of $50.00 per hour.

This role is part of the Older Americans Act of 1965 / Title V COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT initiative, aimed at creating part-time public service and private sector jobs for unemployed, experienced, and/or low-income individuals aged 55 and older.
