Position Overview

The Controls team operates within the Integration department of Global Powertrain, focusing on the definition and integration of control functions for various powertrain systems.

This role involves the development of cutting-edge control functions for a range of powertrains, including advanced trucks, battery electric vehicles, and fuel cell technologies. The team collaborates on multiple projects across divisions, contributing to the renowned brands of Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize expertise in modern modeling techniques and control theory to achieve optimal integration of hardware and software components within powertrain systems.
  • Engage in the design and development of mechatronic concepts as part of a multidisciplinary team, defining the architecture for control functions.
  • Create and implement control functions for diverse powertrain systems, ranging from Euro VII compliant systems to fully zero-emission technologies.
  • Act as a mechatronic control engineer, responsible for defining comprehensive powertrain control concepts and architectures.
  • Collaborate with global teams to gather specific functional requirements and translate them into innovative control concepts.
  • Design advanced control concepts using MATLAB/Simulink, validating algorithms and models through Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, as well as Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) in real-world applications.
  • Maintain effective communication with global stakeholders, ensuring regular updates on project progress.
  • Facilitate a structured handover of control functions to the Embedded department.
  • Build and sustain relationships with external partners, including suppliers and research institutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Control Systems Engineering or a related discipline is essential.
  • 3-5 years of pertinent work experience in control systems.
  • Proficient in developing relevant powertrain system models to meet functional and control objectives.
  • Extensive experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and associated control toolboxes, including RCP tooling.
  • Familiarity with embedded software modeling guidelines is advantageous.
  • Experience in developing control functions for automotive powertrain systems is required.
  • Skilled in articulating functional requirements clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Control Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety and Cyber Security principles is preferred.
