We are seeking a skilled engineer with substantial hands-on experience in control function development. You will play a pivotal role in defining PACCAR's next-generation powertrain control architecture and designing its essential control functions.
Team Dynamics
The Controls team operates within the Integration department of PACCAR Global Powertrain Definition & Integration. This dedicated group is responsible for defining and developing all powertrain-related control functions across various platforms, including advanced trucks, battery electric vehicles, and fuel cell technologies.
Key Responsibilities
As a Controls Engineer, you will:
- Utilize your expertise in state-of-the-art modeling techniques and control theory to achieve optimal integration of hardware and software components within powertrain systems.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to develop mechatronic concepts and define control function architecture.
- Design and implement control functions for a diverse range of powertrain systems, from advanced Euro VII to fully zero-emission powertrains.
- Engage with global teams to gather specific functional requirements and translate them into innovative control concepts.
- Create advanced control concepts using MATLAB/Simulink and validate algorithms through Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, as well as Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) in real-world applications.
Stakeholder Engagement
Establish and maintain effective communication with PACCAR global stakeholders, coordinating project progress and ensuring a structured handover of control functions to the Embedded department. Build and sustain relationships with external partners, including suppliers and research institutions.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Control Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3-5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Proficiency in setting up powertrain system models to meet functional and control objectives.
- Extensive knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, and associated control toolboxes, including RCP tooling.
- Familiarity with embedded software modeling guidelines is advantageous.
- Experience in developing control functions for automotive powertrain systems.
- Strong skills in articulating functional requirements clearly and concisely.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master's degree in Control Systems Engineering or a related field is preferred, along with knowledge in Functional Safety and Cyber Security.
