Role Overview:
The Advanced Practice Provider operates as a healthcare professional within a specific specialty, delivering age-appropriate care to a diverse patient population. This role involves both independent and collaborative practice within the healthcare team, ensuring care is family-centered, efficient, and respectful of resources. This position aligns with our mission to improve access to care and ensure the delivery of high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct clinical care in an expanded role, utilizing education, certification, licensure, clinical expertise, and Prescriptive Authority Agreement or Delegation Protocol.
This includes:
  • Conducting patient history and physical examinations.
  • Diagnosing and managing patient care (both inpatient and outpatient) including ordering and prescribing medications and treatments.
  • Ordering and interpreting necessary diagnostic and/or therapeutic tests.
  • Providing patient consultations and referrals.
  • Evaluating patient responses to interventions and adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Planning for patient discharge.
  • Offering anticipatory guidance regarding pediatric growth and development.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, patients, and families to formulate and initiate healthcare plans.
  • Assessing the outcomes of consultations and modifying recommendations to facilitate health restoration.
  • Utilizing advanced knowledge to mentor and educate other healthcare professionals.
  • Identifying educational needs of patients and families and directing educational activities accordingly.
  • Recognizing the educational needs of peers and participating in relevant educational activities.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of educational interventions on quality of care.
  • Engaging in research activities, either independently or collaboratively.
  • Applying current literature and research findings to evidence-based practice.
  • Participating in performance improvement initiatives and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Contributing to performance and quality measurement programs within the Advanced Practice Service.
  • Ensuring effective communication within clinical workgroups and with all hospital personnel.
  • Practicing within a shared governance structure aligned with the Advanced Practice Service model.
  • Providing care that supports the Patient/Family Centered Care model and nursing philosophy.
Additional Notes:
  • Applicants must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist by the Texas Board of Nursing prior to hire.
  • Advanced Practice Providers are required to be fully credentialed and privileged to practice clinically on or before their date of hire.
  • This position will require credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff Services department.

Experience:
  • Preferred: At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred: At least 2 years of experience in pediatrics, inpatient, or acute care as an Advanced Practitioner.
Education:
  • Graduate or professional degree or equivalent experience required for licensing.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Texas (or valid Compact RN license) required upon hire.
  • Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist by a recognized national certifying body required.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification required.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required.
