Senior Automation Engineer
The Senior Automation Engineer plays a crucial role in the development, oversight, and management of engineering methodologies and toolsets, including program libraries utilized in water and wastewater process automation solutions. The position entails coordinating and integrating diverse technical activities within automation engineering sectors while providing engineering design assistance to the sales division.
Reports To: Operations Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategically planning, organizing, and directing engineering operations to ensure compliance with standards and quality results.
- In addition to engineering duties, this role is tasked with indirectly guiding engineering processes and execution techniques.
- Support the growth of integrated SCADA systems through engineering leadership, training, and assistance to fellow engineers and personnel.
- Identify significant technical challenges and risks, providing the necessary resources to navigate these situations.
- Mentor and coach other members of the engineering team.
- Oversee the engineering process and the realization of objectives and activities to promote standardization in design, execution strategies, and support methods.
- Assist in quantifying project resources and drafting specialized project proposals.
- Design and implement communication network standards for cellular and RF technologies for SCADA RTUs.
- Develop and maintain template projects for water and wastewater RTUs.
- Create PLC programs for control and data acquisition.
- Develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications.
- Design control system circuits.
- Specify necessary hardware components.
- Draft Functional Descriptions, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and O&M Manuals for submission packages as required.
- Generate process documentation to meet internal documentation standards.
- Regularly review and contribute to the training curriculum and processes for newly hired Automation Engineers in PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
- A minimum of five years of experience in engineering, development, or related roles within the SCADA domain, particularly in water and wastewater treatment.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams on large and intricate projects.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley and Modicon PLC programming, HMI software, and Ignition.
- Familiarity with SCADA software is advantageous.

Valid Driver's License
Travel Requirements:
May necessitate occasional or extended travel based on project demands.
Supervisory Guidance:
Operates under general direction, working from policies and overarching objectives with minimal functional guidance. Rarely refers specific cases to superiors unless clarification or interpretation of company policies is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.
Error Management:
Potential errors may be challenging to detect, such as recommending unsuitable equipment or facilities, leading to excessive costs or inadequate production over an extended timeframe. This may adversely affect external relationships. Work is not subject to audit or verification, involving considerable accuracy and responsibility.
Language Proficiency:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical literature. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and to interpret bar graphs.
Computer Proficiency:
To excel in this role, an individual should possess knowledge of PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming software; Dorsett Controls InfoScan programming software; AutoCAD software; SQL Database software; Excel Spreadsheet software; and Word Processing software.

Work with sensitive data of significant importance, such as development or research projects and profit margins, which, if disclosed, may harm the company's interests.
Security Clearance:
Ability to pass a government background check for access to restricted areas.
